Evidence-Driven Investigation from the Same Alert

Start from a detection and stay in one case through live host collection, disk-image ingest, local mail parsing, timeline reconstruction, chain of custody and the final report — without opening a second forensic tool.

Forensics That Starts Where Detection Ends

Digital Forensics sits alongside SIEM, XDR and EDR on Seceon OTM, drawing on the same host and incident context rather than collecting independently.

Live

Host evidence

Hashed collections from Linux and Windows agents with in-page preview.

Offline

Disk images

E01, DD, RAW and ZIP ingest with tree browse and extract-to-custody.

Mail

Local stores

Microsoft .PST / .OST and Thunderbird .mbox, including attachments.

From Separate Forensic Labs to One Case

The problems below are tool-boundary problems. None of them is fixed by another export.

The Challenge

Why sidecar forensics fails investigators

  • The SOC owns the alert; the forensic team owns the image — and they reconcile by email.
  • Mail stores, disk images and host artifacts each have their own custody story.
  • Keyword-only search buries unknowns under operating-system noise.
  • Reports are written after the fact, disconnected from the detection that started the work.

Our Solution

One case, one evidence trail

  • Collection starts from an existing incident, carrying host context and identity with it.
  • Live collect, image ingest and mail parse all land as nested exhibits on the same case.
  • Boolean, fuzzy and proximity search with NSRL hide-known filters out known-good files.
  • Custody manifests and PDF/CSV reports are generated from the case, not assembled later.
Investigation Lifecycle | Seceon Digital Forensics

Investigation Lifecycle

Alert → Investigate → Acquire → Analyze → Contain → Remediate → Report

Alert

Enter from an existing OTM detection so the case already knows the host, user and risk score.

Investigate

Triage the endpoint, review related telemetry and decide what to acquire next.

Acquire

Live host collect, workstation upload, or offline image ingest into the case.

Analyze

Browse trees, parse mail, search content, build timelines and extract IOCs.

Contain

Link response actions to the investigation so containment stays auditable.

Report

Produce custody-ready packages with hashes, findings and analyst notes.

What Gets Collected | Seceon Digital Forensics

What Gets Collected

Endpoint artifacts, disk images and local mail — enough to reconstruct what happened without leaving the platform.

Endpoint and host artifacts

Running processes and command lines, hashes, network connections, logged-in users, Windows Event Logs and PowerShell, registry persistence, Prefetch/Amcache/Shimcache, USB history, Linux auditd and shell history, macOS unified logs and LaunchAgents.

Images, mail and custody

E01/DD/RAW/ZIP images with tree browse and extract. Microsoft Mail .PST/.OST deep-scan of contents and attachments. Thunderbird .mbox ingest and parse. SHA-256 at acquisition, working copies for analysis, and a JSON custody manifest.

Search, Timeline and Integrity | Seceon

Search, Timeline and Integrity

Investigator-grade search and evidence handling, not keyword-only browsing.

How investigators search

  • Simple, Boolean (AND / OR / NOT / phrase), fuzzy and proximity modes
  • Indexed text and paths across collected and extracted files
  • NSRL SHA-256 known-good import with hide-known filtering
  • Findings for mail_store and mail_message with From, Subject and Date

How evidence is handled

  • Policy-controlled, auditable acquisition
  • Originals protected; analysis on hashed working copies
  • Chain-of-custody events for acquire, access, export and analysis
  • Reports distinguish collected evidence, automated findings and conclusions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a replacement for a dedicated forensic lab suite?

It is the operational Digital Forensics path inside Seceon OTM: live host collection, image ingest, mail parsing, search, timeline, custody and reporting. Deep memory or specialised carve workflows can use integrated or customer-provided tooling, with acquisition metadata kept on the Seceon case.

Which mail formats are supported?

Microsoft Mail .PST and .OST (contents and attachments), standalone Outlook .PST indexing, and Mozilla Thunderbird .mbox ingest and parse.

How does NSRL help?

Import SHA-256 known-good sets so search and review can hide operating-system and common software files, leaving unknowns for the investigator.

What does a typical workflow look like?

Create a case → add an image or collect host evidence → browse and extract → record custody → generate the PDF/CSV report.
